UPDATE: After communicating with Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman and a negotiator, the situation has been resolved peacefully.

The area is a residence on Quill Pen Court off of Sundance Circle.

3:05 p.m. Forsyth County deputies are currently negotiating with a man who is refusing to come out of a house in the Settler's Lake subdivision off Jot Em Down Road in northern Forsyth County.

Cpl. Doug Rainwater, public information officer for the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, said the incident started with a 911 call from a neighbor. When deputies responded, they said the man, who they say is armed, refused to come out of the house. A full SWAT and crisis negotiating team has responded to the scene, according to Rainwater.

Cpl. Rainwater also said the man came out one time for a very brief period. He looked around at the law enforcement response and went back inside the house where he remains.

The Forsyth County Schools district is closely monitoring the situation, according to spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo. Parents of children who live in the area will be contacted if the situation is still occurring during school dismissal. The first school impacted would be Silver City Elementary, which dismisses at 3:20 p.m.
