Two Mexico-bound teenagers have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a 17-year-old girl Sunday after they stopped for some fried chicken in north Forsyth, authorities said.

Juan Cornejo, 17, of Hickory Hills Road, and Leonardo Torres, 19, of Nugget Trail, were each charged with kidnapping by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

A jail spokesman said Cornejo was released early Tuesday morning on $20,100 bond and Torres was released Monday night after posting the same amount.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Franco said Cornejo and Torres were arrested without incident about 4 p.m. at the Zaxby’s restaurant on Hwy. 306 (click for map) , where the girl’s family said the suspects might be.

Sheriff’s Lt. Col. Gene Moss said authorities found Cornejo holding his estranged girlfriend in the vehicle against her will while Torres was inside the eatery ordering chicken.

He said Cornejo did not use a weapon, but the girl had some superficial injuries.

Franco said the girl, whose identity has not been released, was not hospitalized and went home after the investigation.

The incident began about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said, when Cornejo persuaded the girl to come outside of her house near Jot Em Down Road and talk.

The girl was home alone, Franco said.

He said Torres was waiting in a car outside and Cornejo forced the girl into it “with the intention of taking her to Mexico against her will.”

The girl’s family arrived home later and called 911. Franco did not say how the family knew the girl might be at the restaurant.
