Three people have been arrested for drug possession and other charges after a wild car chase down Ga. 400 ended in a single vehicle wreck near the Dawson County line early Sunday morning.

According to a sheriff’s office incident report, at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies began pursuing a tan Toyota Sequoia traveling north on Ga. 400 after the vehicle allegedly crossed over the yellow line. When authorities signaled the vehicle to stop, it allegedly sped away, “maintaining speeds between 95 and 100 mph.”

The report states that the pursuit ended on Hwy. 53 near Taylor Road, after the Toyota crashed into a ditch.

Two suspects, Joe Lewis Mason III, 28, of Norcross and Lindsey Coleman, 23, of Ellijay, were taken into custody at the scene of the wreck. Both suspects reportedly told deputies that the alleged driver, later identified as Eric Von Small Jr., 27, of Ellijay, had fled from the scene on foot, according to the report.

Deputies deployed a K9 unit to search the driver but were unsuccessful.

At about 8:30 a.m., local authorities were told by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office that the driver of the Toyota had been located three miles away from the crash site.

In their search of the Toyota, deputies found a glass methamphetamine pipe that all three suspects allegedly admitted they had smoked from prior to the chase.

The report states that shortly after all suspects were in custody, deputies were alerted by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office that the Toyota was stolen and Mason was named as a suspect in its theft.

Small has been charged with two felony charges, possession of methamphetamine and attempting to elude a felony, and a host of other misdemeanors including DUI, reckless driving, speeding, failure to maintain lane, driving with a suspended license and driving with defective tires. He is being held in the Forsyth County Jail under a bond of $22,685.50.

Mason has been charged with felony theft by receiving and possession of methamphetamine. He is being held under a bond of $22.240.

Coleman has been charged with the possession of methamphetamine. She has since been released from the Forsyth County Jail on bond.
