A Forsyth County couple arrested during an undercover drug bust last week in Barrow County also faces local charges.

Aaron Smith, 41, and his wife Holly Smith, 37, were charged Aug. 7 by Winder police with sale of marijuana and sale of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school.

Authorities said the arrest was made after a pound of suspected marijuana, worth an estimated $1,600, was delivered to an undisclosed location in Winder.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Lt. Gus Sesam said Winder police notified local authorities the day of the arrest that the Smiths likely had marijuana in their home off Buford Dam Road.

After getting a search warrant, Sesam said investigators found about 2 pounds of suspected marijuana in the house.

“It was an immediate response based on the information we got from them,” he said.

As a result, the Smiths have been charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana.

Sesam said the Smiths’ 11-year-old son was home alone when authorities arrived.

The state Department of Family and Children Services was notified and the child has since been released to a family member.
