Cumming Country Fair & Festival back on Monday after closing Sunday for weather

Officials with the Cumming Country Fair and Festival made the decision to close on Sunday due to bad weather, but the fair has reopened and events planned for Sunday have been rescheduled.

Fairgrounds Administrator Dave Horton said the decision was made Sunday afternoon due to bad weather and safety concerns for visitors and workers

“Obviously, the weather dictates your decisions,” Horton said. “We looked at what the weather forecast was, and we stayed in contact with emergency management folks. It was going to be some high winds and large amounts of rain from noon until 9 p.m.”

The fair reopened Monday and will continue until Sunday, Oct. 15

Each day of the fair has different promotions and themes, and Sunday was scheduled to be Senior Citizen Day, with free admission for those 55 and over.

Seniors will get another chance for free admission on Oct. 15.

“We are going to make up a Senior Day promotion on the last Sunday, so seniors will have that same option,” Horton said. “Generally, what we do is have three or four days throughout the fair that have free admission or things of that nature, so that usually covers anytime we do lose one, but we’re going to be able to slide an extra for Senior Day.”

Horton said decisions for any other potential closures will be made closer to that day.

Tickets for the fair are $7 for ages 11 and up and free for those 10 and under and can only be paid for with cash. An ATM will be on-site. For more information, go to CummingFair.net.
