Authorities have identified the person that was struck and killed over the weekend on Interstate 75 in Bartow County as a 37-year-old Cumming man.

According to Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright, Shannon Larry Chumbler was found in a northbound lane of I-75 near Glade Road.

He “had been hit multiple times by oncoming traffic,” Wright said in a statement. “It appears the person was in the travel lanes when the initial impact occurred.”

Chumbler’s body was found about 1:35 a.m. Saturday when a Bartow County Sheriff’s deputy stopped to check on a vehicle in an emergency lane.

Wright said investigators believe it could have been a truck or a large vehicle that struck Chumbler.

Wright said agencies in the area were alerted “to be on the lookout for a larger vehicle with damage that would be consistent with striking a pedestrian.”

No such vehicle has been found, however, and troopers have no new leads on the case, according to Wright. The investigation is continuing.
