HALL COUNTY - Police are investigating a body found in Lake Lanier.

The Hall County dive team found the body Sunday night in Lake Lanier, a law enforcement official said.

The body was reported in the water at 5:54 p.m., said Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes, in the area of Shadburn Ferry Road near the Hall/Gwinnett county line in the Buford area.

The dive team and investigators were sent to retrieve the body and investigate, she said.

Bailes said the body of a white male appeared to have been in the water for "a period of time." The body will be sent Monday to DeKalb County for autopsy.

The body had drifted into a cove area behind the 6000 block of Shadburn Ferry Road, she said. A fisherman spotted the floating body and called 911.

When law enforcement arrived, the body was near a private boat dock, Bailes said. The water depth is unknown due to the body having been moved before the divers arrived.
