ALPHARETTA — The Georgia Department of Transportation is holding a public hearing/open house Tuesday on a project that likely will affect many Forsyth County residents.

The department is gathering input on its plan to widen and reconstruct Hwy. 9 from Upper Hembree Road to Windward Parkway in northern Fulton County.

The informal open house is set for 4 to 7 p.m. at Alpharetta City Hall, 2 Park Plaza. The public can ask questions and leave comments.

Kathy Zahul, metro district engineer with the DOT, said in a statement that proposed project will “help accommodate current and future traffic needs in one of north Fulton’s fastest growing communities.”

Other possible improvements to that stretch of Hwy. 9 include the reconfiguration of some side roads, adding a multi-use path and sidewalks and upgrading traffic signals.

Those who can’t attend can submit written statements until July 7 to: Ms. Hiral Patel, P.E.; State environmental administrator; Georgia Department of Transportation; 600 West Peachtree St., N.W.–16th Floor; Atlanta, GA 30308.

Project information also can be found online at www.dot.ga.gov/PS/Public/PublicOutreach.
