CUMMING — Parents have the opportunity to help their children fight the flu during the Student Wellness Expo on Wednesday and Thursday.

The 2014 Pre-K Student Wellness Expo offers free flu shots and flu mists for children ages 4-18, regardless of whether they’re enrolled in a Forsyth County public school.

The event, which also includes a food allergy and anaphylaxis expo, is set for 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Otwell Middle, 605 Tribble Gap Road in Cumming. It continues from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Piney Grove Middle, 8135 Majors Road.

Both days are early releases for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Parents must accompany all students. They can find the Forsyth County Health Department administering the shots or mists in the schools’ cafeterias.

They must bring consent forms and insurance cards to the clinic if they are insured. Vaccines will be given at no charge to children without insurance.

Food Allergy Kids of Atlanta will have learning stations set up for students and parents, said Connie Trent, the school system’s health services coordinator. There will also be a “pharmacy resource from Mylan to answer parents’ questions about food allergies.”

Representatives from the school district’s food and nutrition services department and its bullying prevention program also will be on hand to field questions.
