Expansion of West Forsyth High School approved

WEST FORSYTH — West Forsyth High School is set to join the four other public high schools in Forsyth County by inviting bulldozers and hard hats to its campus.

As part of an expansion, the school on Drew Road will receive a new band room, choral room and an additional restroom next to the cafeteria, according to Jennifer Caracciolo, spokeswoman for Forsyth County Schools.

During a work session Thursday, Forsyth’s school board approved Cooper and Company as the general contractor.

The project, which Caracciolo said is expected to be completed in about a year, was set at a price of $3.64 million. It will be funded locally through a bond referendum that was approved by voters in 2014.

The district has hired Cooper and Company before, she said.

West, which opened in 2007, is the second-newest high school in Forsyth, behind only Lambert. It has a student enrollment of 2,364, the third largest in the district.
