The Forsyth County Fire Department is inviting local third-graders to participate in a fire safety poster contest.

Fire Chief Danny Bowman said the contest gets youth involved while increasing fire safety awareness.

“As firefighters, we believe it is our duty to educate the community about the importance of fire prevention and safety," he said.

Three winners will enjoy a pizza party with their class and local firefighters. They and three runners-up will also have their artwork displayed in county buildings.

All third-graders in county public and private schools, as well as home-schooled students, are encouraged to submit their original artwork.

Posters should be on paper -- minimum dimensions of 8.5 inches by 11 inches and maximum dimensions of 18 inches by 24 inches -- with the release form securely attached to the back.

The release form and other contest information can be found online at

Posters should be submitted no later than March 18 to: Fire Department of Forsyth County; Attn: Michele Cranford; 3520 Settingdown Road; Cumming, GA 30028.

Contact: Michele Cranford at (770) 781-2180, Ext. 4028.
