Fire extinguishers used in bus vandalism at Forsyth middle school

EAST FORSYTH — Three buses at a Forsyth County middle school were vandalized during one of the recent winter storms.

A Forsyth County school system maintenance employee noticed the glass doors had been broken out on three of seven buses parked Feb. 26 at Lakeside Middle School.

According to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s report, the employee made the discovery while checking the school parking lot for black ice.

School was not in session Feb. 25 or the 26 as a result of winter weather.

The fire extinguishers had been removed from the three buses, with two of the devices discharged outside and “thrown down an embankment.” The third extinguisher had been discharged inside a bus.

According to the incident report, deputies were unable to lift any fingerprints because the “fire extinguishers were covered with snow.”

The parking lot on Lakeside’s campus is not fenced in, according to Jennifer Caracciolo, spokeswoman for the school district.

“The buses were repaired that day and back on their routes the next day,” Caracciolo said.

She said no suspects have been identified and the investigation is ongoing. The district did not have a damage estimate.
