According to reports from the various Forsyth County high schools, all four state playoff basketball games involving local girls’ teams will be held tonight.

The schedule includes: Cherokee at South Forsyth (6 p.m.); Etowah at North Forsyth (7 p.m.); Lambert at Pope (6 p.m.); and West Forsyth at Woodstock (6 p.m.).

FORSYTH COUNTY — As of lunchtime, the Forsyth County school system is planning to hold school on Thursday.

According to district officials, the decision is subject to change based on the weather and power at the schools.

“Currently, all [schools] have power,” said  Jennifer Caracciolo, a spokeswoman for the system. “However, we wanted you to know our plans at this point so you could plan accordingly.

“We know that there are homes without power, but there is much improvement over yesterday and we look for more to be restored throughout today.”

The forecast from the National Weather Service does not look promising.

Frigid winds, some gusting up to 25 or 30 mph, were expected to sweep across Forsyth County later this afternoon and tonight, with a 40 percent chance of snow.

Temperatures are predicted to fall overnight into the teens or single digits, which would be a record low for the date.

Thursday’s forecast calls for clear skies with a high of 26 and a low of 10.

Schools have been closed all week. Monday was the President’s Day holiday for students and the winter weather forced the cancellation of school today and Tuesday.
