Forsyth County Schools announced the hire of new principals for two elementary schools in 2019-20.

Ben Jones will be the principal at Shiloh Point, while Mike Sloop will take over at Silver City. Jones will replace Derrick Hershey, who is set to be principal at Sawnee next school year. Sloop will replace Paige Andrews, who will be the first principal of Poole’s Mill, which is set to open in August 2020.

Jones and Sloop have a lengthy history in Forsyth County.

Jones has been assistant principal at South Forsyth Middle School since 2016, but he first joined the school system in 2004 as a social studies teacher at Liberty Middle School.

Jones went on to become a graduation coach at Liberty in 2010 and then assistant principal at Silver City in 2012.

Sloop first joined the school system in 2002 as a science teacher at Otwell Middle School. Four years later he was named the Forsyth County Teacher of the Year.

Sloop transitioned into administration in 2013 at Big Creek Elementary School where he was an assistant principal. Sloop has also been an assistant principal at Little Mill Middle School and Desana Middle School.
