Forsyth schools graduation rate leads state among metro counties, large districts

Forsyth County Schools had the highest high school graduation rate among metro-Atlanta county school district and large-school districts in the state, according to numbers released by the Georgia Department of Education on Wednesday.

The school system’s 2019 graduation rate increased to 94.6%, well above the state graduation rate of 82%. Forsyth County Schools’ graduation rate in 2018 was 94.1%.

South Forsyth High School led the way with a 97.9% graduation rate, followed by Lambert (97.7%), West Forsyth (93.8%), Forsyth Central (92.5%) and North Forsyth (90.1%).

South Forsyth and Lambert both saw increases in their graduation rate from 2018, while Forsyth Central and North Forsyth saw slight decreases. West Forsyth’s graduation remained steady.

The county overall graduated 3,373 out of 3,565 seniors in the class of 2019.

Forsyth County was one of 71 Georgia school districts with a graduation rate at or above 90%, according to the state department of education.

Georgia overall has seen a steady rise in its graduation rate since using the adjusted cohort calculation required by federal law. The state saw its graduation increase to 82%, a nearly 10% jump in just five years.

“I am very proud of the continued progress of our students,” Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Jeff Bearden said in a statement. “We have excellent teachers and support staff, and I join them in being thankful for our parent and community support as we prepare our children to lead and succeed.”
