FORSYTH COUNTY — Students and parents looking to mark Veterans Day in Forsyth County may not have to look further than their own school, as many are holding ceremonies and events this week.

North Forsyth High School’s Veterans Day Marine Corps Junior ROTC Birthday Celebration, which is open to the public, is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday. It honors the holiday as well as the 239th anniversary of the Corps.

Other events taking place at various public schools throughout the county all fall on Tuesday, the actual holiday. The following are open to all vets and the school’s students and families.

Shiloh Point Elementary’s family is invited for an assembly at 8:30 a.m. to “honor and recognize our veterans and active military for their dedication and service to their country and people of the United States of America.”

Festivities will end no later than 9:30 a.m. to accommodate those also attending nearby Piney Grove Middle School’s activities.

Over at Big Creek Elementary, the observance will take place in Priscilla’s Garden, an outdoor venue, at 9 a.m. Afterward, the school will have a breakfast reception for vets in the auditorium.

Sawnee Elementary third- through fifth-graders will have their veterans’ event from 8:30-9:15 a.m., while pre-K through second grade will go from 9:45-10:30 a.m.

At Settles Bridge Elementary, plans call for a ceremony at 9:30 a.m., followed by a brunch for vets and their families in the cafeteria.

Piney Grove Middle’s fifth annual Veterans Day celebration is set for 9:30 to 11 a.m., with a program in the gym at 10 a.m.
