Four Forsyth County high school seniors recently received scholarships from Georgia United Credit Union.

The four Forsyth seniors receiving Vernon E. Carne scholarships included Preston “Bailey” Howard of Forsyth Central High School, who received $1,000.

The other recipients each earned $500: Savannah Chapman of North Forsyth High; Rebecca Raines of Lambert; and Kelsey Broka of West Forsyth.

Recipients are chosen based on an essay competition, with consideration given to academic accomplishments, leadership and participation in both school and community activities.

The awards were part of $12,500 presented to 13 high school seniors through the Carne and the Archbishop John F. Donoghue Catholic Scholarship programs.

This is the 19th year that Georgia United has given the Carne scholarship and the sixth year for the Donoghue award.

About $212,500 has been presented to high school seniors during the tenure of both programs.
