Horizon Christian Academy will hold its second Blue/Gold Football Game and Family Picnic beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at Bennett Park football field, 5930 Burruss Mill Road. The game will begin at 7 p.m.

A local private school is inviting the community for an afternoon of football and fundraising.

Horizon Christian Academy will hold its second Blue/Gold Football Game and Family Picnic on Saturday at Bennett Park.

Tami Nolting, a school employee, said the event will feature games, face painting, balloons, hamburgers and hot dogs, as well as a punt, pass and kick football contest.

The Horizon cheerleaders will be teaching cheers to elementary school girls, and the evening game will feature the 2011-12 school football team.

“There are many reasons people should come out,” she said. “We have a new football coach, Bill Fordham, who’s a national-certified strength and conditioning coach and a Nike SPARQ-certified trainer. He has 17 years combined coaching experience at high school, college and the NFL.”

She added that Fordham previously spent five years coaching at South Forsyth High School.

The picnic and game are free, but donations for the school will be accepted. Raffle tickets for a chance to win a 2011 Ford Mustang will be available for $20 each. There will also be a number of free giveaways.

Nolting said she and school leaders are hoping for a turnout of at least 250 people. The event's fundraising goal is about $40,000.
