A competition this weekend will bring together some of the top young minds in the state to show their skills.

The Georgia FIRST Robotics Peachtree District Qualifier Forsyth/Alpharetta event will be held at Denmark High School and will feature 30 teams from schools across the region, whose robots will perform a variety of tasks during the competition.

The theme of this year’s event is “Destination: Deep Space,” which will begin with teams’ vision obscured, meaning the robots must either be pre-programmed to perform tasks without the operator looking or will feature a camera system.

Once the game begins, players are scored on how many “hatch panels” and “cargo” are placed on simulated ships before going back to their starting point. The game is presented by Boeing.

Teams will set up for the competition starting on Friday, and the competition, which is open to the public, will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
