Parents and students soon will get a special sneak peek at Forsyth County’s new middle school.

Lakeside Middle will hold a ribbon cutting and grand opening event for the community from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The Lakeside community is looking forward to the event, said Stephanie Winborne, co-president of the school’s Parent Teacher Student Association.
“It’s a squeaky clean, beautiful new building,” Winborne said of the facility at 2565 Echols Road. “Everybody is excited to get to walk through it.”

Lakeside is one of five new schools opening this year in the county. The others are Lambert High School and Brookwood, Haw Creek and Whitlow elementary schools.

Lambert held its grand opening on July 18.

Winborne said Lakeside’s opening event will include a ribbon cutting and school tours.

Parents will also have a chance to sign up for the PTSA and other support organizations. They can also buy their students’ planners, P.E. uniforms and spirit wear during the event.

The best part of the event for students, Winborne said, will be the ability to walk the halls of new facility before their classes start on Aug. 10.

“For the kids, the biggest positive is the chance to see the school before school starts,” said Winborne, noting her son Will is a rising sixth-grader at the school.

“He’s excited about the new school, but apprehensive in general about going to middle school.”

Nearby restaurant Backyard Burger will sell biscuits from 9-10 a.m. and lunch items from 10 a.m. to noon. Drinks and other snacks will also be available from various school clubs and organizations.
