Liberty Middle School’s iTeam has been named the 2013 Metro Region Team of the Year by the Georgia Middle School Association.

Liberty’s team consists of Chris Cummo, Alyssa Emert, Sarah Loftus, Jennifer Wharton and Misty Williams, all of whom will be recognized at the association’s annual conference next month in Savannah.

The iTeam is a seventh-grade pilot program using inquiry-based learning. Lessons are aimed at making connections and investigating questions from the real world.

Teachers aim to inspire students to examine new approaches and methods to solving problems.

In making the announcement, the association cited Liberty’s team for its enthusiasm, commitment and high level of energy and creativity.

Connie Stovall, Little Mill principal, said in a statement that the school community was “very proud of this accomplishment and the work the iTeam is doing for our students.”
