WEST FORSYTH – Two public school buses carrying students from Kelly Mill Elementary were involved in an accident as they left campus for dismissal Wednesday afternoon.

One bus reportedly ran into the back of the other on Kelly Mill Road in front of the school, according to Jennifer Caracciolo, spokeswoman for the school system.

Students were transported back to the school to be examined.

“Eight children on the first bus and one child on the second bus have complained of minor soreness,” she said. “We are contacting their parents to see if they want to pick them up or send them home by bus.”

Caracciolo said students without any medical complaints will be sent home by bus. A total of about 40 students who were on the buses will be sent home with letters to notify parents of the incident.

“One bus was drivable, but the other one may not be, so we sent another bus as a precaution,” she said.

Caracciolo said a school resource officer and an ambulance were called.

“Our deputies are on scene investigating, though we have not determined a cause [of the crash] yet,” said Deputy Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

This is one of two accidents involving public school buses within an hour of each other. The other one occurred just after this, when a school bus carrying the South Forsyth High School girls' track team was reportedly t-boned by a pickup truck.

No injuries were reported, though Castleberry Road is closed just north of Bethelview Road so wreckers can clear the scene.
