Local Vietnam veterans to award three scholarships to Forsyth County students

Cumming Chapter 1030 of the Vietnam Veterans of America will award three $1,000 scholarships to Forsyth County high school graduating seniors in its fourth annual scholarship program.

According to Chapter President Gary Goyette, scholarship applications will be sent to public and private high schools in the county in the coming weeks.

The program is open to graduating, college-bound seniors of Forsyth County high schools who are U.S. citizens, and the child, grandchild or great-grandchild of a U.S. military veteran.

Each scholarship is presented in memory of a Vietnam War combatant killed in action.

According to Goyette, “Our organization is truly pleased to once again be able to reward deserving students for scholastic achievement while we also honor the memory of our comrades-in-arms who fell in service to our nation.”

Students and parents may obtain an application from their school guidance office or by calling (770) 500-7234. Applications must be postmarked by April 15.
