CUMMING — The principal’s office at a middle school near Cumming will have a new nameplate on its desk this fall.

Kim Head, currently an assistant principal at Forsyth Central High, has been appointed principal at Lakeside Middle for the start of the 2016-17 school year.

The decision was made in executive session Thursday at the Forsyth County Board of Education’s monthly meeting. Head will succeed Principal Debbie Sarver, who is retiring.

“I am overjoyed to have the opportunity to join the Lakeside Middle School family,” Head said. “I look forward to building on the great academic foundation.”

A Forsyth native, Head is a graduate of what was then Forsyth County High School. Her first educator position was as the business education teacher at South Forsyth High in 1989.

She has since served as technology specialist at South, as well as at North Forsyth high and middle schools. She has also been an administrative assistant at South.

Head went on to become assistant principal at Central in 2004, where she was crucial in establishing the school’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics program.

Head has twin daughters who followed in her footsteps and teach at Kelly Mill Elementary.

Sarver is retiring after coming to the system in 1993. She taught or has been an administrator at Lakeside, North and South Forsyth middle schools and Big Creek, Midway and Settles Bridge elementary schools.
