Officials with Forsyth County Schools are keeping an eye on the winter weather expected on Tuesday but no decision has been made to cancel school.

Jennifer Caracciolo, a spokeswoman with the school system, said on Monday morning that school officials were monitoring the weather but likely would not make a decision until after a meeting with Forsyth County emergency agencies this afternoon.

Tuesday’s forecast includes rain and below freezing temperatures.

As of about noon on Monday, closings on Tuesday had been announced for Georgia state offices, Fulton and Cobb county governments, Atlanta Public Schools, Marietta City Schools and the Cobb, DeKalb,  Fulton and Gilmer county school systems.

According to information on Forsyth County Schools’ website, the final decision will be made by Superintendent Jeff Bearden and will take into account road conditions, time and the amount of snow and ice, weather predictions, building conditions and temperature and wind-chill factor.

The school system notifies the public online at Forsyth.k12.ga.us, Facebook.com/FCSchools and Twitter.com/FCSchoolsGa. Officials recommend checking at least two sources due to potential fake social media accounts.

Those who are signed up for FCS’ online newsletter will also receive and email, and the system operates an automated voice service at 770-887-2461.
