NORTH FORSYTH — Cadets at North Forsyth High School’s Marine Corps JROTC program earned top national honors in an annual fitness test.

The male team ranked first in the nation, and the female team finished fourth nationwide in the Marine Corps League-sponsored Youth Fitness Test.

The test consists of a series of exercises, including pushups, pullups, crunches, standing board jump and a 300-yard shuttle run.

Participants were rated according to the number of repetitions of each exercise and their time on the shuttle run, according to Major Mac Kelly of North.

Three of the male team members — Matt Borders, Alex Peacock and Elijah Salemi — posted the three highest individual scores, while Brittany Smith had the highest female score in the southeast region.

The male team advances to the National Youth Fitness Test Competition later this month in San Diego.
