Blair Armstrong is the next head football coach at North Forsyth, local school officials have announced.

Armstrong — who was head coach and athletic director at Banks County High until this week — was released from his contract with that school system on Monday, according to Forsyth County Schools spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo.

Armstrong has 20 years of head football coaching experience in Florida and Georgia.

He led Johnson High from nearby Hall County to the playoffs three times between 2002-’04, and coached Peachtree Ridge to a share of the state Class AAAAA state title in 2006.

In 2008, Armstrong led Banks County to the program’s first playoff appearance in 10 years.

Armstrong visited the North campus Friday night to be introduced.

North’s vacancy opened up last month when Jared Zito resigned after four seasons to take over the head coaching job at Dacula.
