Mykayla Harrison, a freshman at North Forsyth High School, was recently named the Optimist Student of the Month by the Sawnee-Cumming and Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Clubs.
During an awards presentation, she was introduced by Little Mill Middle School social worker Janna Barroso, who described Harrison as “a truly inspiring student” known for her “drive, focus and motivation to succeed” despite some challenging personal circumstances.
“Mykayla is intelligent, she’s resilient, she’s extraordinarily optimistic,” said Barroso, noting that the teenager has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average.
Harrison was presented with a plaque and a $100 savings bond from Roger Dunn, president of the Forsyth-Cumming club, and with a variety of gift cards from the Sawnee-Cumming club.
As a joint gift from both groups, she also received a flute.
