SOUTH FORSYTH — A local high school senior recently received a four-year Naval ROTC full scholarship at a Southeastern college.
Pinecrest Academy’s Jake Mangan was awarded $136,000 to attend Auburn University with a Marine Corps option, where he intends to study building science with a specialization in military science.
“Since pre-K, Jake has demonstrated exceptional leadership, particularly through his personal example,” said Ed Lindekugel, Pinecrest headmaster and high school principal.
“Our entire community congratulates Jake and his family for achieving this honor, and for all his accomplishments over these past 15 years as a student at Pinecrest Academy.”
The private parochial school serves children in pre-kindergarten 3 through 12th grade on Peachtree Parkway in south Forsyth.
“He is a beautiful example of the fulfillment of the school’s purpose, ‘forming Christian leaders who will transform society,’ achieved through a collaborative partnership between his incredible parents and the school,” Lindekugel added.
Mangan also received three-year Army ROTC full scholarships to the University of Alabama, University of Mississippi and Louisiana State University.
According to Vivian Heard, a spokeswoman for Pinecrest, he chose to decline those offers to pursue his dream of becoming a Marine officer.
