A private school in Forsyth County is broadening its curriculum for its students and others.
Horizon Christian Academy, with campuses on Freedom Parkway and Canton Road, is offering several online courses.
Heather Marshall, headmaster, said the school ultimately hopes to provide more than 70 online courses to sixth- through 12th-grade students.
The subjects would include math, science, social studies, English, foreign language, Bible, electives and English for speakers of other languages.
The courses are designed to help enhance summer school programs, provide additional elective and Advanced Placement courses, as well as college credit-generating classes for those looking to get a head start.
Gerry Crete, dean of student achievement, said in a statement that Horizon sees online courses "as a platform to provide solutions to scheduling challenges and other special situations."
In addition to Horizon students, the online courses are also open to home-school students.
Currently, the school is offering a number of its traditional courses in an online format.
Marshall said those include several Advanced Placement courses, four levels of Spanish and "a myriad" bible classes, among others.
She said the school recently added online statistics and SAT preparation, and will soon add AP statistics.
The school is offering several courses in online format only.
Marshall said these include: Three levels of Latin; two levels of Chinese; marine science; ESOL for native Korean, Chinese and Spanish speakers; and AP biology, U.S. history, macro and microeconomics.
She said all the classes meet "rigorous national and state education standards," and are taught from a "Christian world view."
"The courses are taught by Christian teachers and include biblical integrations," she said. "These aspects are central to our mission and important to the families we serve."
