The Forsyth County Board of Education soon will receive a copy of the 2012-13 school budget.
Dan Jones, the school system’s financial director, told the board during a meeting Thursday night that he would present the budget May 10.
The school board is slated to give its tentative approval to the spending plan a week later.
Though he’s still working on the budget, Jones said preliminary estimates, which don’t include state allotments, show at least a $6 million shortfall.
“I expect it to look sort of like it did last year,” Jones said. “Our goal is to handle it without a tax increase.”
The proposed budget will be advertised the first week in June, with final approval scheduled for June 21.
