The Forsyth County school system will be closed Monday due to the threat of winter weather.


District spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo said the decision applies to all students and staff.


In addition, any athletic events and extracurricular activities have also been postponed, she said.


The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for all of North and Middle Georgia, including Forsyth County, from 7 tonight through 7 p.m. Monday.


The forecast calls for snow to begin after dark and change to sleet and freezing rain overnight into Monday morning. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches of snow and ice are expected.


The freezing rain and sleet could continue into Monday afternoon, with high temperatures not expected to rise above freezing.


The Georgia Department of Transportation has issued a travel advisory for Monday.
