Two of U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson’s 29 nominations this year for military service academies hail from Forsyth County.

South Forsyth High School graduate David Garrison and West Forsyth High School graduate Haley Jones are heading to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

"One of my favorite tasks each year is to nominate promising young leaders to our nation’s military academies," Isakson said.

"This was an extremely competitive year and I congratulate these appointees who will make Georgia and America proud."

Each member of Congress is responsible for nominating young people annually to the nation’s military academies.

Those accepted are awarded four-year scholarships that include tuition, books, board and medical and dental care.

Isakson held a reception Sunday for the students and their families at the Georgian Club, honoring their aspirations of military service.
