Paula Gault presented the Judge Richard S. “Stan” Gault Education Scholarship to 2006 South Forsyth High School graduate Nancy Renteria on Thursday during a meeting of the Rotary Club of Forsyth County.

Begun in 2010 by Paula Gault, the judge’s widow and former superintendent of Forsyth County Schools, the annual $1,000 scholarship is awarded through the North Georgia Community Foundation to a non-traditional student whose primary residence is Forsyth County.

Judge Gault, who passed away in July 2003, was a non-traditional student himself, entering the U.S. Air Force Academy on his third try at age 22. He was also one of the first members of the Rotary Club of Forsyth.

Renteria attended local schools her entire life after her family moved to the county from Mexico when she was 3.

She currently attends Georgia Perimeter College and plans to eventually become an elementary school teacher, with a focus on students whose native language is not English.
