Two schools will get new principals

When students return from summer vacation at two Forsyth County schools, they will be welcomed back by new principals.

The Board of Education has selected Rebecca Johnson to be principal at Shiloh Point Elementary and Polly Tennies for Chestatee Elementary. Both will begin their new duties July 1.

Johnson, who is currently principal at Chestatee, will take over at Shiloh Point for Sharon Ericson, who is retiring June 30.

Johnson received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Auburn University, and her Leadership Endorsement from the University of Georgia.

She has teaching experience in Alabama and Florida and joined the local district in 2004. She has also worked at Mashburn and Coal Mountain elementary schools.

Tennies, currently assistant principal at Midway Elementary, received her bachelor’s degree from Juniata College in Pennsylvania, her master’s degree from Loyola University in Maryland and her Leadership Certificate from the University of Georgia. She is also a National Board Certified teacher.

Tennies has teaching experience in Maryland and Virginia and has worked at both Chestatee and Sawnee elementary schools since she started working for Forsyth in 2001.
