UNG-Cumming holding town hall meeting Monday
Input sought on campus academic future

CUMMING — The University of North Georgia is asking for community opinion on the future of its academic plan.

A town hall meeting will be held at noon Monday in room 104 of the Cumming campus, which is off Pilgrim Mill Road near Ga. 400 at Exit 16.

UNG’s Campus Academic Planning Committee will take input into consideration for its academic master plan.

“A really important component is from an academic standpoint what the community wants and see the future like, and what is the university’s role in our future,” said James McCoy, president and CEO of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce.

He said an initial forum was held on Feb. 3, but Monday’s meeting will hopefully catch the attention of more residents.

“It’s our university, and they’re asking for our opinion,” McCoy said, “and we should at minimum bare to give it to them.”

The meeting is the next step after the college developed a strategic plan last spring, said Jason Pruitt, executive director of the Cumming campus. Now each campus is tasked with creating academic priorities and initiatives.

“We want to know what courses, what academic programs we need moving forward,” Pruitt said.

Also up for discussion are opportunities for faculty and whether there is a need to physically expand the campus.

“What specifically from the community do they see the campus being over the next three to five years?” he said. “How can we best meet the needs as an academic institution?”
