The Forsyth County Fire Department is accepting applications for those who want to participate in educational kids programs offered this summer.

Fire Camp, scheduled for June 4-8, is open to children who will be entering sixth grade in August.

Junior Fire Academy, which will be held June 18-22, is for kids entering seventh and eighth grades in August.

Completed applications must be submitted by May 11. They can be found online at www.forsythco.com.

Both programs are free. Those who attend will have a chance to experience and learn about different aspects of being a career firefighter, including firefighting, search and rescue and CPR.

“The Forsyth County Fire Department prides itself on being actively involved in our community and in engaging our community’s youth through our educational and outreach programs,” said Fire Chief Danny Bowman said.

“The fire camp and junior fire academy programs are an exceptional way for students to learn what it is like to be a firefighter and about the many services our firefighters provide to this county every day.”

The programs will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the department’s headquarters in the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex on Settingdown Road.

Campers may be dropped off after 7:30 a.m. and must be picked up by 5 p.m.
