CUMMING — A little rain isn’t get going to dampen anyone’s Christmas spirit this weekend in Forsyth County.

Three festive events — the Celebration of Lights, Jingle Jog 5K and Cumming Christmas Parade — will be called off only for the worst of weather, organizers say.

“Everything is looking good, if we can just keep this rain away,” said Anna Barlow, parade coordinator. “It is a rain-or shine-event.

“If we have bad storms, I will let the officials make that call as far as what they decide to do with the parade.”

The race, which is a fundraiser for Forsyth County Community Connection, and parade are set for Saturday morning along Market Place Boulevard.

“The race begins at 8:30 [a.m.],” Barlow said. “And then the Christmas parade starts at 10:30.”

The parade is organized by the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce.

“We have a total of a little over 50 floats registered for the parade, and that includes your vans, your floats and then some personal vehicles that have decorated your cars],” Barlow said.

On Friday, Northside Hospital-Forsyth will hold its annual Celebration of Lights, which features holiday-themed activities and performances.

The festival culminates with the lighting of a 65-foot tall tree adorned in some 15,000 lights atop the hospital.

As with Saturday’s events, the weather is unlikely to cancel the Celebration of Lights, according to coordinator Patricia Daniel.

“Even if it rains, we’re still doing it,” Daniel said. “Nothing stops.”
