DAWSON COUNTY - Just after midnight on Monday, Sept. 23, a fire erupted at a commercial property behind Big D's BBQ at the intersection of Ga. 400 and Hwy. 53.
Minutes after the call came in, the first firefighter units arrived on scene to combat the blaze. Dawson County firefighters put in a mutual aid request to Forsyth County, who brought a unit with a ladder truck to help control what a press release calls "heavy flames at the rear of the structure."
The press release sent out by Dawson County Fire and Emergency Services Division Chief Jason Dooley said that "crews had the fire under control in just under an hour but remained on scene for another two hours for salvage and overhaul operations. There was extensive fire damage to the back deck, roof and exterior of the structure. The second floor also received fire damage. The main floor and terrace level suffered significant water damage."
The structure contained two businesses — Today Title Loans and Nature's Way Chiropractic.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
