CUMMING -- An employee working at an office near downtown Cumming was taken to a local hospital Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out in a neighboring suite.

Forsyth County firefighters responded to the blaze at an unoccupied suite in a multi-unit building on the 100 block of Allen Street, just east of the Cumming square, on Sept. 15 about 1 p.m.

Division Chief Jason Shivers said the employee was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth due to an asthma attack from slight smoke inhalation suffered after leaving the building. No other injuries were reported, and employees all evacuated safely.

All other suites in the building are unoccupied.

Details on the cause of the fire were not immediately available, except that it began in one of the unoccupied suites. Both floors of the building and the roof were damaged.

Smoke could be seen from downtown, and the Cumming Police Department shut down nearby roads as emergency crews worked the scene.
