No injuries were reported in a fire Friday afternoon that damaged a home near Cumming.

Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said the cause and origin of the fire, which appeared to be accidental, remain under investigation.

The blaze occurred about 1:45 p.m. at 406 Mountain Brook Road, in a subdivision off Bettis Tribble Gap Road.

Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said heavy smoke and flames were coming from the house when firefighters arrived.

He said the structure, a ranch-style home with a full basement, should be salvageable. There was smoke damage throughout, as well as some water damage.

The blaze apparently caused the most destruction in the garage and rooms next to it.

“No one was home at the time other than the pets,” Shivers said, adding that two dogs were found safe on the back deck.
