Four Forsyth County firefighters were honored last week during a special promotion ceremony.

Firefighters Lucas Henderson, Debbie Lindstrom, Joey Smith and Marlin Thompson were elevated to rank of lieutenant Friday night at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex on Settingdown Road.

Forsyth County Fire Chief Danny Bowman explained the firefighters, all veterans of the department, have been promoted to supervisory positions.

“They have on their shoulders the responsibility that every firefighter under their command goes home the next morning uninjured and certainly alive,” he said. “We will guarantee you that these are the best of the best, every one of them.”

Bowman asked the families for their patience while the firefighters adjust to their new responsibilities.

As part of the ceremony, family members discarded badges displaying the firefighters’ former ranks and replaced them with new ones.

Henderson’s mother, Shelia Henderson, said her son is a hard worker and goal oriented.

“I’m very proud of him,” she said as she pinned her son with his new rank during the ceremony. “He’s serious about his job.”

Sandra Bartenfeld, mother of arson investigator Lindstrom, beamed over her daughter’s accomplishments.

“I’m very excited for my daughter,” she said. “She has worked hard to get where she is in the county. I couldn’t be any prouder.”

Local and state government leaders also attended the event.
