Firefighters were called Thursday when a 40-year-old horse fell and couldn’t get back up.
Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said firefighters responded just after 1 p.m. at a Heardmont Farm Lane farm in northeast Forsyth.
Shivers said the horse fell while being walked. Firefighters, with the assistance of the Milton Fire Department large animal rescue unit, used a harness to lift the horse, he said.
“We worked closely with the family and the family veterinarian to get the horse back on her feet and try to help the veterinarian help her,” Shivers said. “But unfortunately she was just too weak.”
He said the horse was not able to stand on her own and the veterinarian eventually euthanized the animal.
Shivers said the fire department is grateful for Milton’s assistance in the matter.
