A fisherman found a woman’s body Friday, Jan. 18, in Lake Lanier near the entrance to Lake Lanier Islands in South Hall, according to authorities.

The 911 call came at 12:05 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, from a man who was fishing off from the shore off of Lanier Islands Parkway.

“The fisherman discovered the body of an adult female in the water at the shore,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth wrote in a news release. “During the preliminary investigation, Sheriff’s Office investigators tentatively identified the woman and determined that her vehicle remained in the parking area near where the body was found.”

Booth did not disclose the identity of the woman because her next of kin are being notified.

The death is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, which was assisted by Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The woman’s body was sent to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
