CUMMING — A veteran of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office passed away on Halloween at age 75.
Ernest Jacob “Ernie” Born was originally hired in 1986 and retired as a captain after 12 years of full-time service.
“Our agency is deeply saddened by the passing of Captain Ernie Born. We will be forever grateful for his service to Forsyth County,” Sheriff Duane Piper said.
“It was a privilege to have our traffic unit and honor guard participate in his life celebration. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with his loved ones.”
Born in Atlanta, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, husband, father and grandfather, as well as an avid fisherman. Immediate survivors include his wife, Nancy Connelly Born, a son and two granddaughters.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald and Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made in Born’s memory to the American Heart Association at americanheart.org or the Humane Society of Forsyth County at forsythpets.org.
