Forsyth County woman dies after crash on Shady Grove Road
Crime

Authorities say that a local woman died Saturday after her car left the roadway in northeast Forsyth and struck a tree.

Deputies with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office responded to a location off Shady Grove Road, near Holland Drive in northeast Forsyth, at about 7 p.m. Saturday and found a white 2002 Chevrolet Blazer flipped over and heavily damaged with two trapped occupants inside, according to Cpl. Doug Rainwater of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Rainwater said they believe that the Chevrolet was traveling south on Shady Grove Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road at PWA Drive, left the roadway at speed and impacted with a tree near Holland Drive after flipping over.

The driver, Cynthia Jane Staggs, 58, of Cumming, and an occupant, a 4-year-old girl relative to Staggs, were extricated from the vehicle and rushed by ground to local hospitals.

Rainwater said that the 4-year-old was taken to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and Staggs was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

The cause of this incident is under investigation by the Forsyth County Traffic Safety Unit.
