The dog park at Fowler Park is temporarily closed for improvements.

Forsyth County closed the dog area Monday to add drains for runoff and put in sod, said spokeswoman Jodi Gardner.

The work will be funded through the $100 million parks, recreation and green space bond, which voters approved in 2008.

The dog park is expected to reopen next Monday.

The nearly 1.5-acre fenced-in area for dogs debuted in July at Fowler Park, which is at Castleberry Road and Highway 9 in south Forsyth.

Divided into two sections for large and small dogs, the park provides a shady area where dogs can be off their leashes.

In addition to Fowler, Forsyth also has an off-leash area for dogs at Windermere Park.
