A Gainesville man died after a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning in North Hall, according to authorities.

James H. Huff, 71, was driving a 2010 Toyota Camry around 7:24 a.m. Thursday northbound on Ga. 52/Dahlonega Highway near Ga. 283/Clermont Highway. Georgia State Patrol said Huff was negotiating a curve when he failed to maintain his lane and traveled off the roadway.

“(The car) traveled through a field and into a creek,” Cpl. Nick Jenkins wrote in an email. “(The car) struck an embankment with (its) front.”

The car then overturned and came “to a final rest on the passenger side in a drainage ditch (that) leads into the creek,” Jenkins wrote.

Huff was reportedly wasn’t wearing his seatbelt, and Hall County EMS extricated him from the car, according to authorities.

The deputy coroner responded to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
