These businesses have been evacuated due to a gas leak in the Lanier Crossing shopping center

FORSYTH COUNTY - Twelve businesses inside the Lanier Crossing shopping center in Cumming were evacuated Friday morning after a contractor cut through a 2-inch gas main at about 8:30 a.m. As of 10:30 a.m., the leak was capped and all of the businesses were allowed to reopen.

The Forsyth County fire department evacuated 12 businesses inside the complex all located near the gas leak which was behind the buildings.

Division Chief Jason Shivers said the businesses had to be evacuated because they were immediately next to the leaking gas line and the wind was actually carrying the gas toward the buildings.

The businesses that were evacuated are all located along a strip in the center of the complex.

Atlanta Gas sent a repair crew and had the leak stopped by about 10:15 a.m.  The evacuation was lifted and all of the businesses were allowed to re-open by 10:30 a.m.
