GDOT: Buford-Market Place in Cumming turn lane almost done
Adding left turn option before intersection
Buford-Market Place construction

Drivers who are tired of long backups when turning left onto Market Place Boulevard from Hwy. 20 (Buford Highway) eastbound will soon have some relief, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

A left turn lane that is being constructed by the opening of Lowe’s to alleviate congestion at the Ronald Reagan Boulevard intersection should be complete by the end of the month, said Katie Strickland, a spokeswoman for GDOT.

“This extension of the left turn lane on [Hwy.] 20 will ease congestion and allow through traffic to flow on [Hwy.] 20,” she said. “It also allows drivers an option to turn left before the intersection with Ronald Reagan as [crews] have removed portions of the concrete island to allow vehicles access — left in, right in and right out — to the shopping center, prior to the Ronald Reagan intersection.”

The project has been in the works since late 2014, though the contractor, Baldwin Paving Co. Inc., was not awarded the bid until October 2016, in the amount of $548,441.56.

Work officially started in February 2017.
